Rietvallei Wine Estate

Rietvallei Wine Estate is a premier wine farm situated in the famous Robertson Wine Valley of South Africa. Situated some 160km north-east of Cape Town, Rietvallei is also one of the country’s oldest family wine estates and has been in the Burger family for 150 years.

Over this time generations of Burgers have developed a deep understanding of the various soils and climatic conditions on Rietvallei and as a result the Estate today has various site-specific vineyards producing an array of wines having popular appeal among local and international consumers, as well as winning numerous awards.

Some of the first Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines produced in the Robertson region were made on the Rietvallei Estate, the quality of which is evident in the Rietvalley Chardonnay having regularly featured among the Gold Medal Winners of the International Chardonnay du Monde in France, the World Cup of Chardonnay.

In the past few years Rietvallei Estate has become especially known for its red wines, with Kobus Burger – sixth generation owner and cellar-master – staking his claim on the South African red wine scene by making impressionable Cabernet Sauvignon wines as well as a red flagship blend known as Estèanna. Tradition still plays an important role on Rietvallei and here one still finds a luscious dessert wine made from the oldest Muscadel vineyard in South African which was planted in 1908.

The excellence of the wines of Rietvallei Estate is complemented by the natural beauty of the surroundings as well as true Cape hospitality, making this the must-visit wine-farm when passing through this region.
