Cederberg Wines

"I want people to drink my wines and think of these mountain ranges, unique and untouched", David Nieuwoudt, winemaker.
  • Cederberg Private Cellar, on the farm Dwarsrivier, is South Africa’s most uniquely situated winery. At 1 036 m above sea level it boasts the highest altitude vineyards in the Cape winelands.
  • The farm falls within the pristine environs of the Cederberg Wilderness Area with its spectacular sandstone rock formations and fynbos typical of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
  • The cold climate and remote location with its pure mountain air and water ensure that the vines are virus free – something few farms in the world can claim.
  • The farm was established in 1893 and has been in the Nieuwoudt family for five generations. David Nieuwoudt is the current winemaker, focusing on sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon.
  • Sanddrif, the holiday resort on the farm, offers 16 chalets and 40 campsites, with mountain biking, hiking, swimming, rock climbing and peace and quiet all year round. The Cederberg Observatory offers slide shows and star gazing on Saturday evenings, weather permitting.
